Now Look Again

Before you knew this was funerary art, what did she tell you?

Where do you feel the weight of the sculpture?

What happens when you notice her hands—one covering the face, the other resting beside the flowers?

Does she seem to be grieving someone else, contemplating her own mortality, or embodying grief itself?

And notice the paradox:

How does something made of stone communicate such tenderness?

What did you understand before you knew anything about it?
